There was a time when man barbaric

Sword and lance hacked and hued

The body and souls of opposition

Laid waste with little thought had

Then men of ambition groped about

As men today grasped and cringed for

Without regard due those menial ones

Their existences easily given way

With selfish intention they trade

Others who live unknown, unmarked

But should another have come then

They too would join unsung masses

Hail, to their efforts and prestige

That they tread upon the faces of men

And fame cannot reckon offenses

For all men are born and so to die

No man can strike his temporal tether

And blame the gods for the cruelty

That claims the lives given by them

Thus ennobling an odious obligation

Hence power and corruption go

Recognized by pawns rebelling

That take the teeth from hatred

And give men freedom yet again

Great men are ambitious deemed too

But their motivations cast complete

Weary of those in desperation's realm

Wrought by their mediocrity gained

Those of self care not of welfare

For common men are expendable

Their troubles easily quelled so

By other malevolent once achieving

Ambition is then not criminal itself

But its close companion intention

It is the maleficent force impending

That can lay waste to good deeds

So ambition must tempered true

That the coals of community alit

Bear a blue fiery flame of purity

That intention cannot so bend

That measure of patience given

Is the forge that smelts ambition

With intention's strength aligned

So magnificence is birthed anew
