Ave Maria! Virgin mild,
Hear a virgin's supplication,
From this wild, unyielding rock
My prayer be carried to you.
Thus sleep we safely until morning,
Even when people are still so cruel.
O Virgin, see the virgin's troubles;
O Mother, hear a pleading child!

When we sink down on this rock
To sleep, and are covered by your protection
The hard rock will seem soft to us.
You smile, the scent of roses drifts
Into this musty chasm,

The demons of the earth and air
Chased from the grace of your gaze,
