Britannia [English translation]
Britannia [English translation]
Across the sea they came
Hengist und Horsa1
In their wake we followed
Sons of the Saxon tribe
Dreaming of a new existence
We set foot on the torn land
Suppressed and then destroyed
Misdeed by Roman hand
O, Britannia2
Land of fury
Left by Rome
After eternal slavery
O, Britannia
Payed the price
Cursed the Gods
For a Heaven’s Paradise
Vortigern3 had asked them
To fight for this bleeding realm
We fought the threat in the north
And forced the Picts4 into the dirt
He rewarded us with gold and land
And celebrated with us in his hall
We drank with him to the alliance
Celebrated peace before the fall
But the toast passes by
Because after peace comes treason
Vortigern’s alliance finds no ally
His people don’t give the land away
And the British God tolerates no other
They only accept the Heaven’s Paradise
Brothers of the North Sea
Fight for your existence
The alliance is broken now
The peace is dismissed
At nighttime
The Saxon overcomes resistance
Drives the Britons5 to the sea
Shunt off to the shore as strangers6

After the Roman legions had left, Britannia was no longer protected against the threats they faced. So the warlords of Britain, represented by Vortigern, asked Germanic warriors and mercenaries to help to protect their lands. The Saxon brothers Hengist and Horsa heeded to this call and they helped to defeat the Picts. Vortigern rewarded them with gold but they wanted land instead. Now the warlords of Bitain turn against Vortigern and the Saxons. This starts the war where the Saxons drive the Britons away and gain control of their lands.
