Eduardo e Mônica [English translation]

Who will ever say that

there is reason

in matters of the heart

And who will ever say

that there is no reason?

Eduardo opened his eyes, but he didn't want to get up

Eduardo and Monica, one day met by chance

And Eduardo, a little dizzy, just wanted to go home.

"It's almost two, I'm gonna get into trouble."

Eduardo and Monica exchanged phone numbers

Later they called each other, and decided to meet up

Eduardo suggested a snack bar but Monica

wanted to see a Godard's film.

So, they met in a park in town

Monica came by motorcycle and Eduardo by bicycle

Eduardo though it was a bit strange that the girld had dye in her hair.

Eduardo and Monica were very different

She was a Leo and he was 16 years old.

She was studying Medicine and spoke German

and he was still still learning English.

She liked Bandeira, Bauhaus

Van Gogh, Os Mutantes, Caetano and Rimbaud

And Eduardo liked soap-operas, and used to play

She talked about the Brasilia

And also about magic and meditation

And Eduardo was still stuck in a "school-movies-clubs-TV" routine

And despite all this difference, suddenly,

They got an urge to see each other

Then, they would meet everyday

And the desire grew stronger as it's supposed to be

Eduardo and Monica took classes of swimming, photography

Acting, handcrafting and decided to go traveling

Monica used to explain to to Eduardo things about

sky, Earth, the water and the air.

He learned how to drink, grew his hair

And decided to work

And she graduated on the same month

that he passed his entrance exam.

And they celebrate together

And also argued together, many times later

And everybody says he completes her and vice-versa

Like beans and rice

They built a house about two years ago

About the time when the twins were born

And they tried hard to make some money, they managed ok

The hardest time they went through

Eduardo and Monica have come back to Brasilia

And, every summer, I miss our friendship

But they won't be going away on holiday this year

Because Eduardo's little has to do summer school

Ah! Ahan!
