Múspell [English translation]
Múspell [English translation]
Streaming magma and forces release,
cliffs burn.
The child dreams and nerves fray,
tears run.
Stones melt and the mountain flows,
shattered dreams.
The light screams and the flame turns white
The land simmers.
The fire that causes battles
glowing as evenings draw in.
Surtr1 is going berserk,
here the eternal fire sleeps.
Giants rage around the fragmenting Earth.
Glaciers weep.
Ice melts on hot coals.
The young girl screams.
Mothers reassure their weary daughters.
Muspell celebrates.
Shadows dance where strength fades
Day becomes silent.
You'll die tonight!
The sky is hidden by soot,
The lava runs against us.
Darkness in all directions,
evil is the dark night of Muspell.
We feel our feet get scorched,
certain death waits for us.
We will leave life together,
a little voice stops crying.
Bursting out of the cracks, fissures, and hollows,
are giant, raging rivers of fire.
Loki releases the reins,
and plays in the strong currents.
We lie on a little atoll
embers rising towards us.
It pains my that my bones will rest here,
my dear young daughter.
Finally I feel a little body
leave itself behind.
The lava tucks us in2,
my dear child.
1. A giant from Norse mythology, referenced in at least one other Skálmöld song, Fenrisúlfur.2. Thanks to Vetur for their very informative comment, which provided this and other corrections.
