Septiembre [English translation]

He has his eyes fixed on her hips

while she, in just her underwear,

dances against the blind´s backlighting

that bathes her in a dress of sunlight.

He thinks he´s seen an angel,

and she never felt so free,

he memorizes every little detail,

she realises and smiles at him.

And even though on the radio

you can hear "Highway to Hell",

they only listen

to Tom Waits´chords.

The ready moon sees hours go by

while they ignore,

the world falls apart around them,

the light of the city heralds the coming of morning,

but on that bed

neither the time nor the clock exist,

hands get entangled

as shadows mingle.

And the glasses slowly fog over,

they desire each other and they play,

they smell each other, they have no memory,

so strongly so, that they look like animals.

It´s very different during the week

she lectures at the university,

both of them holding back desire,

as though as he was just another pupil.

As she writes on the blackboard,

he can´t focus,

she brushes the hair away from her back

and in his head, the math burns.

And on the corridors

they don´t even look each other in passing.

She is afraid,

she is afraid of the rumours.

He can´t hold this forbidden love any longer,

it gives the fugitive

a Harrison Ford complex,

and she can´t just believe that Some Like it Hot 1

and she says "Wait just a bit longer,

and let us see from where the sun rises" 2

And he says "My love,

I can´t hold back what I feel"

But she, afraid, does not answer,

he looks at her and doesn´t know

how to interprete her silence,

there´s something that simply breaks down.

There´s only two weeks left

until summer comes,

but in her two hearts

it feels like it´s already begun.

But whenever there was fire

there´s bound to be some ashes left,

and so, every morning

she wipes a chalk heart from the board.

And after that summer

they both began september,

and again on the corridors,

although not so feverish anymore,

the don´t look at eacher, or touch.

She, because she´s in a hurry

and he bcause he has found

a new love.

1. "Con faldas y a lo loco" (lit. "Wearing skirts and partying hard") is the rather unfortunate spanish translation of Billy Wilder´s 1959 film "Some Like it Hot". The play on words makes no sense in english due to the different title. An approximate translation would be "She just can´t see herself wearing skirts and partying hard" 2. It refers a spanish idiom usually tagged after a plan, saying "...y que salga el sol por Antequera" ("and let the sun rise from Antequera"), meaning "And let´s leave it to luck" ot "Let what needs to happen, happen"
