שיר הפרחה [Shir ha Freha] [English translation]

I don't care for long words

And you're that kind of long word.

Chau buddy and salut to your life

In hopes you'll understand the freha.

The sun of Faraj rips the sea, 1

And I'm sailing in my flip-flops. 2

Where the lights take me, I'm there, 3

With nail polish, lipstick and other stunts. 4

Cuz' I wanna dance, and fool around

I wanna laugh, and I don't want you

I want in the days, and in the nights 5

I wanna scream: "I'm a freha."

A face that is above all,

And jeans in the style of the newspapers.

Eternal curls on my head,

And posters instead of walls.

I want to love like in the movies,

A hot guy who'll come with the English and colors

C'mon baby, the plane's waiting,

And another dream of mine is taking off and crying.

Cuz' I wanna dance...

Once when I'll have time to grow up,

Then the party will end.

Because at the end of every freha hides a tiny home

An example of a husband, and a thousand directions of smoke. 6

Cuz' I wanna dance...

1. 1.Farag is a known photo shop on a main street in Tel Aviv (Dizingoff), owned by the Farag brothers. It was known because many parents took their kids there to take photos.

2. "Rips the sea" reminds of the wallpaper for many of these shoots, it was too colorful and glowing, another thing which points to the freha being a common girl with a "bad taste." 2. The flip-flops show the freha as a city street girl. And are a bit of an antithesis to the shoes of the time.3. To leave no doubt that the freha is like a moth, chasing the light with too much make-up and lipstick. 4. dawiin, is a slang word for someone wanting to attract attention and impress. 5. This and the previous line may imply what you think they do. 6. An example of a husband, meaning a usual partner.

Literal translation: "and a thousand of smoke directions," is a paraphrase of "a house with four walls of air." Is it the smoke of her burning dreams? Is it the smoke screen that shields her from reality? Are those the pipes of the factory that smoke from everywhere near the poorer neighborhoods? It seems that the answer to all is yes.
