Lard: Pure Chewing Satisfaction

News   2024-12-27 07:35:50

Gee, Lard sure sounds angry. And why not Lard is a supergroup, or super-duo, of forcefully opinionated proto-punk Jello Biafra and dance-hit-wizard-turned-electronoise-necromancer Alain Jourgenson of Ministry. The result is adenoidal banshee-wailing over great crushing walls of buzzing guitar. It sounds, well, like Jello Biafra singing for Ministry. Which is fine, really. Biafra, always willing to have a ball while ranting against the world's injustices, lets his goofy left-leaning tendencies out to play on all eight songs; on "War Pig Renaissance," the Stalinist chorus is a reminder that rebellion should be fun. The relentless electronic noisefest is there to entertain you, too: It's evidence that Jourgenson is through trying to impress people and is back to just writing good, loud music. Pure Chewing Satisfaction is a good, loud, rebellious summer album, and it's a blast to listen to.
