Musically, Groovie Ghoulies is a Frankenstein's monster of influences. Its members have the pop sensibilities of Cheap Trick, the punk swagger of Ramones, and the horror-show theme of Misfits firmly lodged in their heads. The main difference is that these guys don't take themselves half as seriously. While the lyrics on Re-Animation Festival—the group's fourth full-length album to date, and its first with ex-Screeching Weasel drummer Dan Panic—are peppered with references to zombie love, haunted houses, and Mexican goat-demons, the music is pure pop-punk, leaning a bit toward the three-chord punk side. The Ghoulies' voodoo music is so fun and catchy that you'd swear Transylvania was a beach in California. Just don't play Re-Animation Festival too loud, or you'll wind up raising the dead and getting stuck in the middle of a zombie dance party.
