Balmorhea covers So I Can Take My Rest by Robert Earl Keen

Balmorhea is named after a tiny town in West Texas, so the epic, mostly instrumental band seemed like a natural fit for State Songs. For their cover of Robert Earl Keen's slow-burning beauty "So I Can Take My Rest," we sent the members to the Waco Mammoth Site. The fairly new building was erected over the spot where a herd of Mammoths was buried 15,000 years ago—it's a fascinating place, and perfect for this rendition of Robert Earl Keen's mournful, gorgeous "So I Can Take My Rest." (The song's first lyric: "I'm tired to the bone.") Balmorhea's latest album is the excellent Stranger, and the band is currently touring Europe—after dazzling the crowd at our SXSW party last week. Dates can be found here.
