The upcoming third season of CBC and Max original comedy Sort Of will be its final season, co-creators Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo have announced.

The final eight-episode season will premiere in Canada on the CBC Gem streaming service on Nov. 17, releasing two episodes per week until the series finale on Dec. 8.

We set out to tell a story about a kind of transition in Sabis life, and how those around them also change and we feel in this comingseason that story came to an end in a way that felt right for us, Baig and Filippo said in a statement.

Sort Of follows Sabi Mehboob, played by Baig, a gender expansive millennial who is exhausted with changing themselves for the comfort of others. In the third and final season, the series will explore Sabis journey coming to terms with feelings of both grief and freedom after their fathers passing. Sabi will confront big questions about their identity without the constraints of living up to their fathers expectations, forcing them to grapple with some massive life choices.

The duo went on to dispel any rumors suggesting the show was cancelled: Were aware that series like ours, shows that feature queer and trans characters, tend to get cancelled early on, and we know thats been happening a lot recently. We want to say thats not whats going down here. We made this third season knowing it would be our last.

Additional returning cast members include Gray Powell, Amanda Cordner, Ellora Patnaik, Supinder Wraich, Kaya Kanashiro, Aden Bedard, Raymond Cham Jr., Becca Blackwell, Ali Hassan, Kareem Vaude, Varun Saranga, Ayesha Mansur Gonsalves and Grace Lynn Kung. Alok Vaid-Menon and Angelica Ross will also make cameos in the final season.

Were also aware that this show is ending at a time when trans communities continue to be targeted and trans rights are being constantly attacked, Baig and Filippos statement continued. Our hope is that this series can continue to affirm lives and spark conversations well after the final season drops.Sort Ofwill always exist, despite all the transphobia in our world.

The dramatic comedy won seven 2023 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Comedy Series. It also won a Peabody in the Entertainment Category and earned a second Peabody nomination for the upcoming award ceremony.

Sort Of is produced with the participation of the Canada Media Fund. Baig and Filippo serve as showrunners and executive produce with Jennifer Kawaja and Bruno Dub. Andrea Glinski, Laura Perlmutter, Ian Iqbal Rashid and Tricia Fish are co-executive producers.Filippo and Shamim Sarif will direct the final season. Sphere Media handles production and distribution.
