It's nearly impossible to find a Cosmic Psychos review without a reference to beer or drunkenness popping up. And that's fair: The band's music is evocative of a bunch of emotionally stunted men who set down their beers only long enough to pick up some guitars and bang out 30 minutes of noisy punk-metal. It takes a few listens before you realize that Oh What A Lovely Pie has made an impact on your brain; indeed, by the third listen, the choruses should be emblazoned into your head to the point where you're singing along without even knowing you're doing it. There's a little something here for every beer-drinking lad, lyrically speaking: There are defiant anthems ("Can't Keep A Good Man Down"), songs about playing and shooting ("Guns Away"), and songs about the devil's underpants (Satan's Undies"). It's Motorhead without the meanness, or at least with meanness that's strictly tongue-in-cheek. Lovely Pie is not quite the album that 1995's Self Totaled was, but it's enough to prove that the group is still up to speed.
