God's Belief In Men lyrics
God's Belief In Men lyrics
Are we are so very pompous
To think that gods are as men
That should be kindred beings
So that we may better understand
An insurance to have against
The void of the great oblivion
That is given birth at our demise
When the temporal veil gives way
For men live in fear of death
Perhaps unvoiced, but known
And like little toddlers by the hand
Led off to bed as darkness falls
Those imaginative ideas we had
They vanish as we slowly age
When our playmates disappear
We implore a reassurant adage
Apart from all religions
From prejudices of man
The entity we all seek
Is far more than we can understand
That which we cannot touch
Or seldom see, but sense
Is better known by a name
We give to this mystery
Have we created God by our belief,
Or were we created by Him?
It's a matter of what we learned
Human ethnocentristic sway
A dwelling place without strife
Where there is no pain, no disease
Living as mortals day to day
Is this so in immortality
For life was hard, and left behind
So why do we wish to maintain it
Is it all we know, here now
So it's easy, eager to sustain it
No pearly gates, no vestal virgins
No harps, nor angles as men
A chasm deep, without limit
No light, no sound, no end
So then if God believed in men
Then men may safely seek
The road's destination afar
Circular and in mystique
