Tandem Dēnique Dēmumque [For the First Time in Forever] [English translation]
Tandem Dēnique Dēmumque [For the First Time in Forever] [English translation]
Anna: Conspiciō apertam ianuam!
Nescīvī quod effectum fore iam!1
Num vērum nōbīs mīlle lancēs sunt?
Vagābar aulā vacuā hīc,
aine convīvīs vīvēns sīc.
Palam portās tandem aperiunt!
Erint hominēs nōn affictī!
Cūncta mūtābitur rēs.
Quam vidētur mī luxuriēs!
Nam - tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
Mūsica erit, erit vox.
Tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
sciet mōta tōta nox.
Fortasse nimis ōcius ēdī
sed in ventre sēntiō
nam - tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
loquar sociō.
Quisque hīc erit et omnis vir!
Quid sī sit hīc mī vir?2
Imāgināre nocte hāc ōrnātam3
in mūrō mēmet dēlicātam,
exemplar gerēns pallam prōpalam.4
Cōnspiciō stantem subitō
formōsum quamquam eum nesciō.
Vorāre velut mālum cupiam!5
Sed tōtā nocte corrīdēmus.
Erit tanta novitās!
Sciam quod sciēbam numquam crās.
Tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
vicis erit, erit sors.
Tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
vidēbit aliquis mē fors.
Sumque penitus certē dēlīra
studēndō studiō,
sed - tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
mī est data occāsiō.
Elsa: Nē admittās hōs!
Nē ostendās hīs!
Semper bona puella mōre sīs!
Sint tacita!
Rēgnum operī!
Sī semel errēs, omnēs scient hī.
Tantum est tamen hodīe.
Anna: Sed tantum est hodīe.
Elsa: Manēmus miserē.6
Anna: Manēmus miserē.
Elsa: Portās aperīte praestitēs!
Anna: Ēn spēs!7
Tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
Elsa: Nē admittās hōs!
Nē ostendās hīs!
Anna: quod spērō vērō potior: 8
Elsa: Semper bona puella mōre sīs!
Anna: fortasse sōla nōn iam sum,
Elsa: Sint ta-
Anna: fortasse absolvam cor.
Elsa: Sint tacita!
Nē sciant hī!
Anna: Crās fēriae fīnem habēbunt9
ergō fīet hodiē
nam - tandem, dēnique, dēmumque,
tandem, dēnique, dēmumque -
nīl obstābit mē!
1. This is the same rhyme for "door" and "anymore" in "Let it Go".2. I know only 22 words with only an "i" for a vowel, and 22 with "ī". The others are: "bis cis dī dīc fī fīs fit glīs hī hic hinc hīr hīs ī in is īs it līs nīl nix pix quīn quis quit scīs scit sī sīc sim sint sīs stirps vī vim vīs vix."3. The photo shows students of St Andrews in Scotland wearing their traditional red gowns.4. "Gerēns" is neuter accusative agreeing with "exemplar".5. The writers originally wrote "I hope that I don't vomit in his face", which could be "Sum timēns nē in vultum eius ēvomam."6. A semicolon could make "miserē" a singular imperative from "misereō": "We wait; pity us!".7. "Porta"/"portae" won't scan or rhyme. My rendering also mimics my final line of Verse 2 of "Let it Go", where "I'm free!" became "Ēn cor!".8. "Eō" can be supplied before "quod" for the ablative object of "potior".9. Anna sings "know" at the same time Elsa does, but I couldn't replicate this satisfactorily in Latin.
