Testament [English translation]
Testament [English translation]
Even you were once a child
And even I used to be very small
And even we were once told something by someone
And so one does what one is told and tries to be like one's supposed to be,
But then one realizes that something is missing
And one forgets to really feel oneself
Or one escapes into art or consumption
And while you are diligently making plans
The Gods are laughing at you
Let your children tell you something about it
Really listen to them
They are still feeling themselves, still have a feeling for the world
They are smarter than you and I
And keep thinking before answering ,that:
You are also just hurt children
In the end there will be various new symptoms and you were the inventors
And then tell them how It works correctly
“Grow up!“ and “You are naiv!“
Pray formulas, make everything be written down into books
The Gods are laughing at you
Pay attention to calligraphy and to them sharpening their pencils
Show them pictures of oak leaves while they are sitting inside at their tables
And then working and swotting and throwing it up again
And in the afternoon It's RTL 2
In the week-end they're buying something nice, voilà the pabulum
And every person who does not adapt to this
Will be told to be a trouble child
And everyone who is too lively
Gets a pill, so that he does not bother anymore
And doing this you betray yourselves, because no child is trouble
And every free thinker and truant is just a carrier of symptoms in this system
But keep in mind, when judging that harshly
You are also just imprisoned spirits
The upset becomes louder and louder
And the teachers are shouting themselves hoarse
Feel indignant that Hänschen is not what he is supposed to be
Instead he is just who he is
The Gods are laughing at you
And you think that you know everything
When Hänschen has grown up and has got his proper children whom he tells something every Tom, Dick and Harry and maybe even you might realize that something is missing
You have got wishes and dreams
And are constantly running with them agains imaginary walls
And every wish you make yourself come true is coming to an end right then
Just go working for made-up numbers and wait for the burnouts to come
Throw your money away for plastics
Just to get a little peace of happiness
The best of grains and milk
Another carport and another loan
And everyone does deteste it
But everyone is doing it still
You smartass and buy nonetheless
And the commercials take you for a fool
And then you are sitting in front of your flat screens and bitch about consumption
If you call this world, I prefer being worldly innocent
The Gods are laughing at you
You salesmen of dreams, designers of symptoms
Do you still get what is happening?
What did the land and the water give to you that you now privatize?
You hypocrites, liars and pied pipers
You salesmen of security paper
You were given a spirit and feeling
Nevertheless you are just followers
You big, scarred, helpless giants
Even you have once been small
And somebody punished you by silence and left you in it
And now you don't hear the Gods laugh and the children cry
And keep on saying to them it does not hurt without really meaning it
Just keep on making plans, I stand aside
I see you and I am not alone
Behind me are standing more and more worldly innocent people
Who do not fit in, either
And don't keep waiting on a conciliatory ending
I won't do you this favour
No wink, no mild punchline
That breaks this discomfort
Someday the Gods will have stopped laughing and If I am not there anymore
I will leave behind a child , that owns itself, and this unhandy song
