Espantapájaros [English translation]
Espantapájaros [English translation]
Magpies come to this place almost daily,
but it is not enough and I get bored watching them
alone, always alone.
My friend was the moon but the sun outshone her.
In the evenings we spoke of things related to us two.
Later I witnessed how lonely the wheat field was (without her).
What sad fate!
I could not move even a little south
to the moon, which fell asleep
and rain tumbled on the roof
and with nothing to do, that is what happens to me for being
a scarecrow.
Always alone.
Made of English cashmere with a backwards tie
cashmere that a century ago I inherited from a deceased judge
and my tie is banquet for rats.
My hat is brown and my head is a ball
and 32 years ago a girl who passed by
made, with just a look,
a heart beat in my chest.
Damn the luck!
I could not even move that day.
I wanted to tell her
untie from this stake that which keeps me bound to this wheat field
and take me with you.
I've been here for centuries
and to this day I know I am a man and not a woman.
But there was nothing I could do,
that is what happens to me for being
a scarecrow.
Always alone,
always alone.
