Fixe [English translation]
Fixe [English translation]
Stare1
Why
This stare
Your mind alert
For who's in danger
of walking on their knees2
The dreams they seize from me
Our gods they lock away
The horrible song of the phoenix
That takes hold of all of us
I was tortured
By Judas' kiss3
Must we resign ourselves to suffering4
To the end…
Nothing
Is as valuable as a man
Don’t tangle your crown
In the cord that holds us together
Stare
Why this stare
Our minds vulnerable5
We lose ourselves in the brawls
Of the rules that are set for us6
From father to son we are soldiers
Constantly standing at attention
Under the yoke of the militia
To the end
Nothing
Is as valuable as a man
Don’t tangle your crown
In the cord that holds us together
We are fragile
We are made of clay
We are an uncertain future
We are useful
We are insignificant
We are the fate resting in our hands
Stare
We are the fragile heavens
We are the gods made of clay
From father to son we are slaves
To the rules that are
set for us
We are the useful days
We are the pointless nights
We hold fate
In our hands
1. the word 'fixe' means 'fixed/set' and is part of the phrase 'avoir le regard fixe' which means to stare/gaze2. I'm not sure exactly what this sentence is referring to, so if someone has a less literal translation I'm happy to hear it3. The kiss on the cheek is sometimes referred to as "le baiser de Judas", Judas being the disciple who betrayed Jesus Christ. So, I'm assuming in this context it's indicating the person was betrayed in some way.4. "Boire le calice" means to resign oneself, to suffer through the things one can't change5. literally 'without handrails'6. the last two sentences don't make much sense for me to be honest
