Karl den Store [English translation]
Karl den Store [English translation]
Be aware good people, be ready to fight.
We enter soon green land
in a night as cold as ice with wind from north.
Soon, monasteries will burn.
Let the Northern Star show us the way
against the treat from the south.
Charles the Great and his army woke our taste for blood. 1
We fight till we die.
Ref.:
The brave people from the North
hold on to their proud believe.
A babaric wrath was brought to life
when Charles the Great wanted to see blood.
Man after man now stands on deck
with their looks to the east,
where the sun shows up again
and speaks with blood in its voice.2
When the battle calls, one has to fight
for one's right to be free.
With the sword in hand and burning eyes3
against the enemy's tyranny.
2x Ref.
1. I am not quite sure - actually I have no idea - what "dir" means. I think it could be the passive opposite of "å få blod på tann" and so I did translate it. I am not even sure if they sing "dir" or "gir", which would be "give" in English (with no effect on the meaning of the phrase).2. Literally: "and speaks blood out of its voice."3. There is a typo in the Norwegian lyrics here. Instead of "of" it should be "og", meaning "and".
