La faraona [English translation]

I was a lass, I didn't know about the world,

I had two big eyes, "but nothing more"...

I didn't look to anybody, because I was mine,

so mine as the sky that made me sing.

For that disdain I used to give away,

somebody started to call me "La Faraona",

and I didn't pay attention to that compliment.

I followed my way without looking back.

But one day I fell in love

and my sorrow overflew,

and all my dark flesh

became weeping and blood.

Since then I swore,

"La Faraona" has a good time

and I'll keep being "Faraona"

in life and death.

For that laughter from my castanets,

for my little heels made of glass ,

for the Moorish blood flowing in my veins,

I can swear nothing matters to me.

Every flirtatious remark, every love compliment,

were a familiar language for me.

Despising status, jewels and money,

I followed my way without looking back.

But one day I fell in love
