Rhodos im Regen [English translation]

the hamlet dowsed in sunlight, shining golden

and the white chalked houses in the tiny street

with the blueest roof that you will ever meet

oh well..

her eyes and hair so black as of a raven

and she poured me some wine, with some bread between

and said "the rain will come and it will all feel

so serene"..

Rain-clouded Rhodos, like a green gem in the sea

And in the morning one light breeze kicks in

it's the greatest thing, you'll ever see

the age-old trees are budding and are blooming

and the cusps break open in the dead of night

come morning, the roses show their colors bright

once more..

The children laugh and run with much abandon

and the farmers are all in a busy mood

and the churchbells ring, for the harvest was good
