Szent László 2. Rész [English translation]
Szent László 2. Rész [English translation]
"Here, here good warriors!"
Gathers his people Endre Laczfi
Then suddenly there's a wild rush
The pagan ranks are falling apart
The scuffle is becoming so big
It seems the ground is shaking a bit
Many just stand still like a statue
Fear robs them of their wit
The shepherd's axe1is nimble
It knocks runners off their foot
Many won't move from where they stand
They'll be a prisoners, their horse is loot
Even the leader was captured
It's Atlamos2but what a shame
(He lost a lot of blood to a grave wound)
His life can't be saved
Up to Buda, Endre Laczfi!
He puts many prisoners on the road
So much plunder, so many flags
One can rarely see such a load
All the Tatars on a slave line
Still trembling with much fright
They are repenting and they wish
To be christianized
When they reached Nagy-Várad
- It happened to be the day of László3-
The race of wildmen lines up to be baptised
Laczfi being their godfather
A sea of people gathers to watch
To believe in the miracle that
The tongue of a decrepit, grave-bound
Silver haired Tatar spouts:
"It wasn't a Székely nor even Laczfi"
May God grant him long life by the way
But the one called László! László!
He defeated us in battle
He appeared when called
He was way taller then then anybody
Not before him, nor after
We haven't seen that in an army
The big man was sitting on a big horse
His face was formidable and majestic
With a crown on his head
From muddy gold, adorned with stones
In his right hand, quick as lightning
His battle-axe was dancing
No living man, feeble human
Or worm would wait for this being
Because that was no man from this world
Not one of the living people
Above his head was visible
The figure of a virgin, a glamorous woman
Her crown was made from sunlight
So coruscant, so bright!
The crowd said: That's Saint Ladislaus
And the Blessed Virgin Mary
And the tale of the old Tatar
Although none have doubted it
Was confirmed by a trustworthy
Guard of the temple
He searched for three days in the tomb
And the body of László could not be found
On the forth day his beatified body
Was found, sweaty all around
