Im Badehaus [English translation]
Im Badehaus [English translation]
Neatness do i loathe
But I go to the bathhouse
To rest in the bath
I now must hurry from here
Pick my beard voluptously
I shall cool my body
Pleasures of a special kind
One can only feel in the water
Upon arrival at the thermal baths
My waistcoat they take (at the wardrobe)
And endearing Sugar-Playthings
Cut the nails right from my finger
Another one, neat and clean
She cuts both my beard and hair
And makes her forget
All these many years of famine
A fatso, shrouded in his tallow
Is kneading my buttocks
They pepper me with powder
and put me into the washtub
Hot water they now pour
And my skin turns red as a hummer
"Ouch" I scream and pain and woe
I'm being boiled like a toad
If all this has goen through
The body is almost undone
But now follows a joyful part
Thereof I shall tell with pleasure
They bring ham, brawn and bacon
Wine and beer, and liquors too
Bread and cake and pastry
But not to my credit
No, all has to be paid for
Ham, Brawn, beer and wine
And him who almost broke your bones
And afterwards boiled you like ham
All of them you have to pay
Even the kindness of the servant-girls
How dear it is, this ordeal of bathing
And Neatness, oh how burdensome
