Volvió una noche [English translation]
Volvió una noche [English translation]
She came back one night, I wasn't expecting her,
there was so much anxiety in her face
that I felt sorry to remind her
of her disloyalty and her cruelty.
She said to me, humbly, "if you forgive me,
the old times will come once again,
the spring is our life,
you'll see that everything will smile on us."
"Lies, lies", I wanted to tell her,
"the times that have passed now will come back no more,
and so my love linked to yours
is just a ghost of ancient history1
which can't now be revived".
I held back my bitterness, and took pity,
her blue eyes opened very wide,
they quickly undersood my untold pain
and with the wince of a broken woman
she told me "that's life" and I saw her no more.
She came back that night, I'll never forget it,
with her gaze sad and lifeless2
and I was afraid of that spectre
which was madness in my youth.
She went in silence, with no recrimination,
I looked for a mirror and wanted to look at myself,
there were so many winters in my face
that she too took pity.
"Lies, lies", I wanted to tell her,
"the times that have passed now will come back no more,
and so my love linked to yours
is just a ghost of ancient history
which can't now be revived".
I held back my bitterness, and took pity,
her blue eyes opened very wide,
they quickly undersood my untold pain
and with the wince of a broken woman
she told me "that's life" and I saw her no more.
